The way the wind blows

For often I wonder,Why sadness,Why sorrow,
why I write poetry
on graves and corpses, of feelings trampled upon
Why not sunshine, why not the daffodils, why not the brook
crooked little paths, ephemeral love stories or feelings so delicate.
but beauty extracts its price, nature never gives when there is none
the best photographs, are still from the darkest rooms
If you stare long enough, even shadows are friends.
Some get the day, Some the night...nobody gets everything right.

Fairy lands are fearsome too!

'Dedication'
Zembla, Zenda, Xanadu:
All our dream-worlds may come true.
Fairy lands are fearsome too.
As I wander far from view
Read, and bring me home to you.
Salman Rushdie

Spells out the name of Rushdie's son "Zafar". I think I am, as a rule, biased against authors who derive their fame from sources other than their writing. This one is part of his book "Haroun and the sea of stories. Interesting how the Fatwa actually turned out to be beneficial for him and made him the celebrity that his writing could not have.

'Separation'
Your absence has gone through me
Like thread through a needle.
Everything I do is stitched with its color.
W.S. Merwin

The way I love poems. Short, original idea, gracefully written and thought provoking. It's a nice way of looking at seperation, as something which can colour your life, fill it rather than make it hollow and that nice ending which says forgetting or denying is not important rather let it be a part of you, one colour of the many which make you.

'Untitled'
I wish I could drink like a lady
I can take one or two at the most
Three and I'm under the table
Four and I'm under the host
Dorothy Parker

Finally a poem written by a lady(sort of) who is clear about her priorities in life. One cannot carry guilt and drinks at the same time, its better to choose one. If you drink dont be sorry but make sure you know what you are getting into.

'Foolish, not Social'

Returning home do you feel you talked too much?
Cleverness, do you feel very tired?
Do you feel like sitting quiet in the blue cottage
Burning incense, after a bath, on return?
Do you feel like wearing a human body at last
After taking off the demon's dress?
Liquid time carries moisture into the room.
Do you feel like an ananta-shayana on her floating raft?
If you feel like that, come back. Cleverness, go away.
Does it really matter?
Let them say foolish, let them say unsocial.

jenny hunt

This event occurs once every 12 years.
It involves groups of about 20-30 tribal women brandishing swords and other deadly weapons, shouting out war cries ...hunting for chickens and goats.
In a City !!! like Ranchi.
Apparently nobody can stop them not even the cops and they do look pretty slick wearing shades and jeans and shirts.
Believe me, the scene is even funnier than it sounds.
And the name is really jenny hunt.(or atleast thats what the locals told me)
:)
talk about womens empowerment, i have seen far more inspiring example in the villages than our dear jingoistic placard toting junta ...esp at the insti.

My feelings exactly

Dilemma

I want to be
famous
so I can be
humble
about being
famous.

What good is my
humility
when I am
stuck
in this
obscurity?

And I am happier than you are.

'Salutation'
O generation of the thoroughly smug
and thoroughly uncomfortable,
I have seen fishermen picnicking in the sun,
I have seen them with untidy families,
I have seen their smiles full of teeth
and heard ungainly laughter.
And I am happier than you are,
And they were happier than I am;
And the fish swim in the lake
and do not even own clothing.
Ezra Pound

oblique references to .............

'The Sermon on the Mount'

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons
of God.

Anon

"[28]And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin. [29] And yet I say unto
you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
[30] Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and
tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of
little faith?"
-- The Bible, King James Version, the Gospel of Matthew, ch.6

I am still struggling to comprehend fully the meaning of this poem
but right now sp has to come higher on the priority list

'And the days are not full enough'

And the days are not full enough
And the nights are not full enough
And life slips by like a field mouse
Not shaking the grass.

Ezra Pound

next to this poem i also found this quote
"A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing
left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."
Antoine de Saint
